How to have F.P.L., or any other Utility Pay You to use their Electricity!!
Hello my name is Ken Schulte and welcome to my mission!Yes my ultimate goal is to one day be self sufficient, generating my own power and selling the excess energy generated back to my local utility. Don’t laugh because that day is closer than you think.
My journey began in June of 2006 when I received my electrical bill from my utility company, Florida Power and Light. I was shocked and dismayed when it totaled $400.00 dollars! Well I admit I freaked out a little because that was the highest bill I had ever received in the 11 years of living in my house.
O.k., a little background is in order. I am a middle class guy living in a middle class house in a middle class neighborhood. (Did I mention I was middle aged also?)
My house was built in 1996 in Delray Beach Florida. I bought it one year later. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths and a 2 car garage. It is a total of 2300 sq. ft under air.
In summation, just middle of the road all around! I also have a wife, 3 kids, a dog and a S.U.V. (Don’t worry, it used to be a mini-van!)
Energy Conservation!!Back to the quest. After the $430.76 cent electric bill, I turned into the switch nazi! I was turning off every light, radio, T.V. AND yelling at the family to do the same. Energy Conservation became my middle name! My efforts paid off……..a little. My next month’s electrical bill went down to $355.37, not exactly what I wanted to pay F.P.L., but I figured I could live with it. So I eagerly awaited my next electric bill to see how my efforts were paying off. I ripped it opened in anticipation when it arrived and……….well, after my son picked me up off the kitchen floor and applied ice to the bump at the back of my head, I looked again at my bill. $571.63!!!!!! This was insane! This couldn’t be right! After all, I was the turn off the power ogre! And a $500.00 monthly electric bill was something I could not live with!Ways to Save Energy!!Well I did what you would have done, (after drying my eyes) I called F.P.L. and complained. I set an appointment for them to come out and conduct a Customer Billing Inquiry Summary. Now this part gets interesting; while the audit was happening F.P.L. told me not to pay my bill in case there was an equipment malfunction. So my next bill came and it was $538.20! I couldn’t understand it! Finally F.P.L. reported back to me. Care to take a guess what the verdict was!? You’re right! Pay up! All the equipment was operating normally so they told me to pay now ! $1,118.4!!!! This was absolutely crazy!Remarkable new products you can easily use to save you $$$$$Well these ungodly electric bills are what started me on my pursuit to discover ways to lower my monthly payments. My guess is that’s why you’re here also.The products and strategies I am suggesting are ones I am using myself. I installed the Chillin’ product in July of 2007. I began replacing the old light bulb’s shortly after that. I installed surge protectors in January of 2008. Simple, quick, easy but powerful ways to save you money!Here is the bottom line: most months’my kilowatt usage is down compared to the same month a year ago.I have cut my energy usage and therefore my monthly electric bill. With rising fuel costs we fight an uphill battle. My goal with this site is to help homeowners save money on their electric bills. I will continue to test and add new products.
